The New Don Jazzy: Onyeka Nwelue Plans a massive Music concert in Europe and Asia

The Nigerian music scene is one of the most vibrant music scenes in the world. It has produced   timeless voices. It has also produced young men and women who are telling the Outside world the story of positivity, hence, the realistic plunge into its promotion to the World.

Entrepreneurship in Africa among young people isn’t always about ‘start-ups’ and ‘incubators.’ There is a general idea to generate revenues from simple means. However, the tendency to ignore the business of music management has completely crucified the implementation of structure in the system. A situation where there are functioning record labels and management companies, on the move to recruit artistes and properly handle them, there is a notable flow in the creativity of these young people. For once, music is money. Big money. Even though we know that a lot of music promoters have failed in the process of trying to invest in artistes and not realizing anything, what one should realize is that the taste of music isn’t about the artiste, but about the music and how it is presented.

Few months ago, I started work on a project, called OutofAfrica Concert. At the initial stage, it started as collaboration with an entertainment company, Angloheritage, based in Lisbon, Portugal. Slowly, it worked itself into an entity that might just serve the entire African communities in Europe and Asia. The whole idea of this project is to take African performing artistes to Europe and Asia and let them perform at clubs and do road shows.

The show will parade such artistes as Bez Idakula, Jeremiah Gyang, Edge, Gt da Guitarman, Beautiful Nubia, Christine Ben-Ameh and other artistes who indicate interest to tour Europe and Asia with the crew. Proceedings from these shows will go to the clubs playing host to us and also to Blues & Hills to continue promoting the music of the continent, hence, you have a growing enterprise that will completely invest in the promotion of Nigerian music.

It is not easy to avoid loss. It is the typical omniscient approach towards risk-taking. Most of the times, it is either that we borrow money to fly these bands and end up not getting what we want or we encounter challenges at the embassies, for the most part that the embassies doubt the credibility of these events we are taking to their countries. The politics of the whole thing is to involve local sponsorships, which basically, is non-financial.

Things like this are very difficult to be done here. If we created music and let it journey itself, then the music and creative entrepreneurships that we glorify everyday have no dealings with us. With self-less passion, one can easily try to mobilize these musicians and have an agreement on the kind of stuff you expect to happen in Europe and fix these things. With a sense of revolving space, the idea is to present these key passions to the embassies, on the platter of collaborations to genuinely take Nigerian music to Europe, have these artistes presented to the tiny audience they may be struggling to impress in Europe and make them become the next African exports to Europe, which apparently, is the dream of every emerging act.

This is difficult, just like maths, but with the detailed contacts you have, this is a small dream. For details on the Europe and Asia concert visit www.bluesandhills.com or contact:

Davido Acquires 8 Million Naira Range Rover Sport

Davido was spotted around Ikota Shopping complex, VGC with his brand New Range Rover Sport. Well it's no longer news that Davido recently got a deal worth 25 Million with MTN. No doubt Davido is really growing fast. Yeah we might not want to say the truth but we all know that there is a stiff competition between Davido and Wizkid. They are both Young and fresh and all the ladies are allover them. Davido is working on his upcoming Album which he has disclosed that he's bringing in some international Acts for his Album Launch.

Asa Asika is also very Young and has worked tirelessly to see that Davido's Music reaches it's peak. What freaks me out about Davido and his team is that they are all Young and modernised Hustlers. He has the Money so let him spend it because You Only Live Ones (YOLO!)

Interview with Natalie Nunn

Call her crazy. Call her hot. Call her America's official girl. Call her Nawti too and you'd be right on ALL counts! She's been associated with Wiz Khalifa, Fabolous and other big stars in the American entertainment industry and yeah, she's the lead vixen in Olu Maintain's NAWTI video. Eromo Egbejule managed to get Natalie Nunn to answer ten quick questions on Olu Maintain, Nigeria and her bad girl status.

1. Meeting Olu Maintain and working with him must have been quite a memorable experience. How did it all begin and how did it go?

Meeting Olu Maintain was awesome. I've always been such a cultural type of girl (love to travel, learn about other cultures and the pop culture differences between America and other places. So when I was on set with Olu all day I would ask him questions about Nigeria hahaha. When my manager came to me with this project, my only request was to hear the song, understand the meaning and of course know exactly what Olu would want me to do in the video.  After I read the script, heard the song and understood the meaning, my reply was "OMG THIS IS GONNA BE SO MUCH FUN, YES I WANT TO DO IT!"

2. Ever been to Nigeria or Africa? Does Olu have plans of bringing you down here soon?

I have never been to Africa or Nigeria but I love the nigerian culture and would love to travel to Nigeria or even Africa. Olu and I have spoken about me coming to Lagos and doing some positive fun things there.  Hopefully soon.

3. Seeing as the Nawti video is the rave of the moment and is getting positive reviews, will you be getting involved with more African musicians? Like G.O.O.D Music's D'banj for instance who is in the US too, yeah?

Yes I love Nigerian music and Olu is actually not the only person I have known who's a Nigerian singer. I dated Olamide Faison for 7years who was not a Nigerian singer but whose family was Nigerian.  I have heard of D' banj who's signed to GOOD music. And me doing another music video? It would just have to be a project that I would like to be a part of.

4. Being an "officially bad girl", there are bound to be some misconceptions and misinterpretations, so which ones have stuck?

Being "America's Favorite Bad girl" has had it's ups and downs. The biggest misconception is that I was just some girl who appeared on a reality show.. WRONG! I am a very educated young businesswoman who graduated from University of Southern California with two majors in communication and sociology and a minor in Spanish. There's also the misconception that because I'm a bad girl, I do bad girl things. Well, yes I do, but nothing that'll get me a criminal record or anything like that.

5. Regular sex follows with your bad girl status, yeah?

6. You French-kissed Olu Maintain in the video and you are by all standards a beauty, just as much as he is cute. Was there an attraction and sex afterwards maybe? Is a relationship brewing?

My kiss in the video with Olu Maintain was apart of the script I played the NAWTI main girl in the video!  Olu is a very charming young man and has a great personality and very handsome but we are nothing but friends!

7. What's the most intriguing thing you can do in a video? All-nude or sexing, yeah?

I have a very sexy video with the network Mun2 coming out on Valentines Day. There's no nudity 'cause I don't feel like I need to take off my clothes and show everything to the world; that's not something I want to do right now in my career. But it is something very sexual.  Stay tuned!

8. You dated Wiz Khalifa before Amber Rose, yeah. So what's your opinion on her single with Wiz? Any chances of you having a music career yourself?

Wiz Khalifa was someone I was friendly with, yes.. but that is in the past and I wish nothing but the best for him and Amber's music careers'.

9. So what keeps you super hot and sexy? Is there a particular beauty regimen or routine you've got?

I love to work out and get the body sexy and everything nice and tight. I also make sure I eat healthy food to give me the energy that I need for my busy schedule. I also try and make sure I keep my stomach in shape and my butt nice and tight.

10. Heard about the #OccupyNigeria events, yeah? What are your thoughts?

I have heard about the Occupy Nigeria events and the issue with the gas prices nearly doubling and all the protest. I also understand that Nigeria is very different from America with the way the government is handled but I will never completely understand everything unless I am from there or lived in it. I just pray for everyone's safety and hope that all of the issues can be resolved without hurting any other innocent people! On that note I love the Nigerian people and the culture can't wait to come to Nigeria so I can meet and see all the beautiful NAWTI NAWTI people! Bless...

Lil Jojo: Like right now its Davido and wizkid for me.

Lil Jojo: I’ve been recording a lot, you all should watch out for the video of my joint "so glad" ft YQ.

How the Industry Night failed

I just attended my last Industry Night at Oriental Hotel. I was told WizKid was to perform. Yes, he is one of my favourite Nigerian artistes and has shown that he is leading the team of extraordinary amazing young talents in the nation. I went with some friends. First, I was not really enthusiastic about going, because last time I went, I almost choked from the rings of smoke serenading the entire jampacked hall, which had almost all the Nigerian artistes in it. From my understanding of what an Industry Night should be, the one done at Oriental Hotel is an absolute bull-crap, a complete failure and a caricature of some sort. It is funny how Nigerians can always copy stuff from the West and quickly bastardise it. It is annoying. Yet, I understand our frustration in trying so hard to be part of globalization. However, our imbecility is such that maligns our self-gratification and the love for the black race, that particular race that is always trying to do what other races have done.

I know what an Industry Night is. It is not for college students. It is not for jobless people. It is for people who matter in the industry; it is a networking platform. How do we make things better in the industry we belong to? It is a place where the best minds meet to find innovative ways of making things work better in the society. What you see at Oriental Hotel every Wednesday is sham, useless gathering of show-offs! Yes, beautiful women in high-heeled shoes and college boys in very colourful clothes, coming to make sure they take photographs with celebrities. There is just not one single person that comes to the Industry Night at Oriental Hotel that understands what the joke is all about. They sometimes assume they are coming for a birthday party or maybe, a special concert from one of the artistes hoping to promote his newly released single.

The question is: do they even understand what it is all about? Where are the record label owners? I know there are no record labels in Nigeria? Where are the representatives of management companies and where are the DJs and VJs? Where are the media representatives? They refused to answer these questions and you know what these guys did on Wednesday, the 22nd of February, 2012? They brought in some well-built men, called bouncers, to harass people at the entrance, collecting a fee of N2000 each. And I asked myself: ‘For what?’

I remembered what a friend said in an sms to me: “The Industry Night is depressing.” Yes, I agree with her now. It is and I don’t advice anyone who wants to do something with his life to go there. You will leave, completely depressed with no idea what you might have achieved. Okay, I get the fact that WizKid is a big shot, but to pay that money to watch him monkey around on stage, when this was supposed to be a socializing platform, where people exchange cards to create more business opportunities and share affinities? Oh jesus christ, Nigerians are mad! For those who have marked Wednesdays to always be at Oriental Hotel, I understand how jobless they must be. For the college students who make sure they come there in colourful clothes, I understand why you have to fail your exams and never attend classes on the following day. And for those artistes who come to show off and tend to intimidate people who are better than them financially, it is high time you understand that snubbing a fan doesn’t make you special.
